The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has achieved £23.64m so far, and Fox will be hoping to push Days of Future Past to similar levels. The X-Men have always been mid-level commercial performers in the UK – all the films so far have been convincingly beaten here by all of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies as well as reboot The Amazing Spider-Man – so 20th Century Fox does seem to have finally made a breakthrough with the latest film. Marvel certainly discovered that more can be more when it combined Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Hulk in Avengers Assemble, achieving box-office far ahead of anything seen from those individual characters. Pointing to reasons for success, it's hard to decide between the return of director Bryan Singer and the excitement generated by combining the two X-Men casts. The latest instalment should easily overtake that number.

In terms of final tallies, X-Men 2 currently is the franchise victor, with £20.70m. Adding in the 26 May bank holiday takings, Days of Future Past is already at £11.6m (after five days of play), and is clearly going to sail past the lifetime totals of all those recent X-Men films.ĭays of Future Past has in fact posted the top opening number of any X-Men film, ahead of previous best debutant X-Men: The Last Stand (£7.09m, including £1.03m in previews). The success of the film so far is in contrast to the numbers for spin-off films X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine, which achieved a respective £16.38m and £13.70m over their lifetimes, and 2011's cast refresh X-Men: First Class, which clawed its way to £15.02m. Discounting previews from the tallies, Days of Future Past's Friday-to-Sunday takings of £7.55m compares even more favourably with the equivalent number for Amazing Spidey 2: £6.13m. This version of Quicksilver is ten thousand times more intriguing than whatever that was in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” While both “X-Men” and “Avengers” are Marvel properties, it’s clear the 20th Century Fox team understood this character to make you want to see more of him, rather than making him a sacrificial lamb that makes you care far more about Hawkeye than he does Quicksilver. With a mightily impressive £9.14m debut, X-Men: Days of Future Past has posted the biggest opening of 2014 so far, ahead of The Amazing Spider-Man 2's £9.01m.
#LEGO X MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST HOW TO#
The executives at Marvel Studios should’ve watched this movie to see how to portray Quicksilver correctly. Let’s talk about the best new character in this film, Quicksilver. It’s the eternal pessimist versus the eternal optimist. They both want a better world for mutants without being seen as a threat to humans, but Magneto only sees the worst in humans while Professor X sees the best in them, despite them both seeing humans at both their best and their worst. You can tell they have the same end goal, but disagree with how to bring it about. Their frenemy relationship is awesome to see. I love seeing the dichotomy between the older and younger versions of Professor X and Magneto. To truly enjoy this film, you’ve had to have at least seen “X-Men: First Class” and probably should also have seen “X-Men” and “X2: X-Men United.” I understand that it depends on what streaming rights Disney+ has acquired at this time and X-Men is a popular franchise, so they want to get them on quickly during this time when there’s little new stuff being added, but it’s still hard for a new viewer to jump into the franchise with this one. That being said, this seems like an odd choice for Disney+ to choose as the first “X-Men” film to put on the app.

It’s really good, and in my opinion, the best to feature both sets of X-Men.
#LEGO X MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST SERIES#
In the series of X-Men and Wolverine spinoff movies that have been made, this one ranks third of the ones I’ve seen. The X-Men from the original trilogy send Wolverine back through time to help the X-Men of the First Class in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Wolverine must help Professor X, Beast and Magneto stop Mystique from killing an important political figure looking to hunt down mutants and possible starting an all out war between humans and mutants.
